Production of compound feed

About the product

Compound feed production is a dynamic process that aims to produce high quality feed with optimum nutritional value. Demanding manual processing is being replaced by automated processes. This requires the incorporation of technologies and complex systems whose activities and tasks are interrelated.

Compound feed manufacturing plants allow primary agricultural holdings to produce compound feed for their own consumption or commercial sale. The inputs are basic raw materials - cereals, oilseeds, protein sources, vitamins, minerals or additives with a defined purpose (to improve taste, digestibility, as disease prevention, etc.). The resulting feed is produced based on a recipe with predetermined ratios for individual macro and micro componentswhich means that the actual production of the feed is not about random mixing of individual raw materials. On the contrary, it is about a process that requires precision, efficiency and meeting stringent requirements to ensure the safety and quality of compound feed.

Basic parts of a compound feed production plant

Compound feed manufacturing plants do not have a uniform form. Their final design depends on the needs of the farm/farmer, the type of compound feed, the required capacity and the current technological and storage facilities. In general, they may contain the following parts:

  • storage facilities for raw materialsto provide suitable temperature and humidity conditions;
  • cleaning and sorting technologies to remove impurities and obtain the required quality of feedstock;
  • Guts for crushing raw materials to the specified size;
  • dispensing equipmentwhich take care of weighing and dosing the exact amount of raw materials according to the recipe of the specific feed mixture;
  • technologies for mixing raw materials used to create a homogeneous and balanced mixture;
  • pellet presses for feedwhich form feed pellets or compressed feed pellets.

In addition, production mixes also include components that take away the waste generated, monitoring technologies that control the production process and analyse the final product, and automated systems to control the production processes.

The production of compound feed is often not the end of the process. The finished compound feed retains the qualities y requires packaging or storage in suitable storage conditions. Again, scales and technology to facilitate removal/transport are welcome prior to sale.
